Earth is suffering from catastrophic climate change. World governments come together to create a program named Dutch Boy, in which satellites will counter the climate change. Set in the near future, Jake (Gerard Butler) is the chief of top climate organization. All top countries of the world are working together to make the world better place to live. They have set up a system of satellites called Dutch Boy Program, that will stop any kind of natural disasters. With new technology, we are able to control the weather.
Everything was working fine for two years, until one of the satellite malfunctions and shows disastrous accident in Afghanistan. US agencies tells the President to shut down the Dutch Boy Program. Soon it was discovered that, it was not a malfunction and was done intentional. Someone is controlling the system and is creating geostorms all around the world. Satellites can be shut down using kills codes that are with the only one person in the world, and he is the President Andrew Palma (Andy Garcia).  Jake along with his fellow astronauts travels to space so that he can save the world from this disaster.
